Welcome to Cornerstone!
I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland and founder of Cornerstone Health & Wellness. I have extensive experience working with individuals, families, and caregivers to treat adjustment, anxiety, mood, behavioral, and developmental concerns with specialty in the promotion of adjustment to or management of complex medical conditions or health concerns.
My Approach
I take a pragmatic, skills-based approach often using behavioral and cognitive-behavioral strategies to promote coping with health conditions, to enhance adjustment to associated medical treatments/regimens, and to treat co-occuring mood, anxiety, and behavioral concerns in order to optimize functioning across settings. I engage you in all steps of the treatment process to make sure we are achieving your goals, and I place great emphasis on coordinating care with your other health care providers and community systems. I am trained in dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and habit reversal therapy, and have expertise working with individuals who have complex health conditions, such as diabetes, pain, dysautonomia/POTS, EDS, MCAS, disorders of gut-brain interaction, functional neurological disorder, autoimmune disease, headaches/migraines, brain injury/concussion, sleep disturbance, procedural distress, pill swallowing difficulties, body-focused repetitive behaviors, and other functional symptoms.
Professional Experience
I have worked in a variety of medical and mental health settings, including a university based community mental health center and anxiety clinic, private practice, children’s hospitals, and pediatric medical subspecialty clinics. I have held faculty positions and leadership roles at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. My undergraduate work was completed at McDaniel College. I hold a Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University with specialization in Child Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. I completed an internship and two years of fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in pediatric (health) psychology. I have been involved in several research projects, presented at numerous national and international conferences, and co-authored several psychology journal articles.
About Me
I was born and raised in the Annapolis area, where I currently reside with my husband and two children. I love the work that I am able to do each day, and I recognize the importance of balancing life’s many demands to optimize self-care and well-being. For me, I try to find that balance by taking opportunities to spend time around the water or vacationing to one of my favorite places. I love nothing more than a weekend filled with family events that allow me to cheer from the sidelines (or audience!) for my kids, family, and friends in their various activities, and if I ever I have a moment of down time, I try to read one of the many books that I bought, started, and is now patiently awaiting my return.
